Here's what the Council on Aging has planned for September

Although the Council on Aging has suspended its events, programs and classes at the senior center, it is still providing services to Dartmouth residents in need. Here are the COA services coming up for September.

Council on Aging Newsletter

The COA newsletter is available on the Town of Dartmouth website. Visit town.dartmouth.ma.us and click on ‘Departments’ and then ‘Council on Aging’. Look for the latest newsletter in the left-hand menu. Otherwise, call (508) 999-4717 and provide your email or mailing address to be added to the mailing list.

Red Cross blood drive hosted by the Dartmouth Council on Aging

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive at the Dartmouth Council on Aging on Sept. 15, 9 am. to 2 p.m. Appointments can be made in advance by calling 1 (800) 733-2767 or by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering “Dartmouth COA.”

Lunch and run 

The Council on Aging will be offering a Grab and Go lunch on Thursday, Sept. 24. The event will happen between 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants are instructed to drive into the COA parking lot and pop their trunk to receive a bagged lunch consisting of BBQ Chicken, paradise rice and a dessert.

Sign up is required, which can be done by calling the COA at (508) 999-4717.

USDA Farm to Families Program

Boxes of fresh produce will be distributed weekly while supplies last to all members of the Dartmouth Community in need. Pick up is at the James M. Quinn School on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. 

Proof of residency required. Advanced sign up is not required.

Health and Wellness

Clinics are now open by appointment only including hearing and podiatry clinics. To learn more, call the Center at (508) 999-4717.

A visiting dental hygienist will also hold a clinic on Sept. 15. For more information, call (774) 766-7238. 

Justice Bridge

For legal advice, the COA recommends reaching out to the Justice Bridge Legal Center, a UMass Law affiliate that can be reached by calling (508) 449-9296 or emailing info@justicebridge.org.

YMCA Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program at the Center

This two year program is led by a lifestyle coach to help participants improve their health and reduce their chances of developing type two diabetes. Medicare Part B will cover costs for those who qualify.
