Holiday recycling tips from the waste management district

Dec 26, 2023

The Greater New Bedford Refuse Management District shared its requirements and tips for holiday season disposal.

For cardboard, residents should empty and flatten boxes and place in the black lid recycling cart. Large boxes can be taken to the Dartmouth Transfer Station with a permit. Grease is okay, food is not.
Styrofoam blocks and string lights can be recycled at the Dartmouth Transfer Station with a permit, but these items do not belong in the curbside recycling carts.

Wrapping paper is not recyclable.

No solid waste or recycling will be collected on Jan. 1. Collection is delayed until Jan. 2.

Real Christmas trees, undecorated, will be picked up on the same day as solid waste for SMART Program participants only on the weeks of Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, starting at 7 a.m. Do not place trees in plastic bags.

Residents may also drop off real Christmas trees at the brush area at 759 Russells Mills Road from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Saturday hours are 7:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
