Holocaust Day of Remembrance, April 23

Apr 6, 2017

This year, the Tifereth Israel Synagogue will observe Yom HaShoah, the Holocaust Day of Remembrance, on Sunday, April 23.

At 6:30 p.m., participants will gather at the Holocaust Memorial in Buttonwood Park for a short memorial service where they will pay tribute to the children who survived the concentration camps and the liberators who liberated the camps seventy-two years ago. After the service, event-goers will walk with lighted candles to Tifereth Israel Synagogue for a program dedicated to the late Elie Wiesel who passed away last July.

This year's speaker is Rabbi Joseph Polak, one of the last witnesses to the Shoah and one of the youngest, a child survivor of Bergen-Belsen. Rabbi Polak worked at Boston University and was a respected colleague of Elie Wiesel, who wrote the foreword to Polak’s book, “After the Holocaust the Bells Still Ring."

There will be a reception after the program at which time participants will have a chance to meet with Rabbi Polak, and view student art work and Elie Wiesel’s books and letters.
