I-195 crash results in 3 fatalities
State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Route 195 eastbound that left three dead on September 28.
Troopers from the Dartmouth barracks reported to a multi-vehicle crash at about 8:12 a.m. on I-195 east between exits 10 and 11 in Westport, according to state police.
The preliminary police investigation indicates that a livery vehicle crossed the median, and hit a vehicle traveling westbound in the left travel lane head-on. The crash resulted in three fatalities; two were occupants of the livery vehicle, the third was the struck car, said police.
One vehicle had caught on fire, but the Fall River Fire Department had extinguished it, said District No. 3 Deputy Chief Theodore Borges, who was on scene. Borges noted that there appeared to be four cars involved in the crash, but had no further details.
No further information on the victims’ identities was released at the time of publication.
The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers are being assisted by Wesport Fire and EMS and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The eastbound side of Route 195 is closed and the left lane of the westbound side at the crash scene is closed at this time to accommodate the crash investigation and reconstruction.
