Indians shut out Blue Devils at Thanksgiving Day game
The Dartmouth Indians ended its 2016 season with a Thanksgiving Day win against the Fairhaven Blue Devils.
The Indians closed the game, 43-0, a slaughter that started just three minutes into the game with a 16-yard run into the end zone by Cole Jacobsen, #11. Nate Ellis, #12, wrapped it up with a two-point conversion, bringing the Indians up, 8-0.
Jacobsen tossed the ball in for another touchdown, just a half yard from the end zone, bringing the score to 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.
The Indians continued the lead in the second quarter. Quarterback Jacobsen threw the ball to Luke Clarke, #9, from 85 yards out. Clarke carried the ball over more than 50 yards into the end zone, and Jacobsen ended the series with another two-point conversion.
A following play resulted in another touchdown, as Ellis threw a 39-yard pass to Clarke. The Indians took the extra point, bringing the score up to 29-0.
The final touchdown of the second quarter was a pass from Jacobsen to Clarke, bringing the score to 35-0. Liam Caulfield, #27, knocked the extra point through the uprights, and the Indians headed halftime with a 36 point lead.
Halfway through the third quarter, Jacobsen earned another six points for the Indians after rushing the ball into the end zone. Caulfield brought in the extra point, and the Indians lead 43-0.
Neither team scored during the fourth quarter, and the Indians took the game in front of their neighbors at Memorial Stadium.
The win follows two consecutive losses this month, against North Attleboro and Stoughton.
"We just wanted to show everyone we could bounce back after the past two losses, and we did that," said Caulfield, one of the team captains.
The match was the last for Dartmouth seniors. They posed for a photo together post-game to celebrate the season.
"It's a special day of our seniors to play on home field in front of their families and friends," said Head Coach Rick White.
The marching band drew attention as well after it performed its season-themed routine with the color guard during halftime. The routine won the Dartmouth band the national championship in New Jersey earlier this month.
The crowd didn't make too much noise from the stands, but rather watched the game quietly while warming up over concession-stand hot chocolate and bake-sale malasada.
