Irene Champigny, 98
Irene Champigny, age 98 of Dartmouth, passed away on Thursday, September 1 at New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the loving widow of Albert L. Champigny and the daughter of the late Manuel and Isabel (Cordeiro) Santos.
Born in Dartmouth, she lived most of her life in the surrounding area. Irene moved to California in 1978 to care for her family members living there, then returned to Dartmouth in 1999.
Mrs. Champigny was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth.
Survivors include her niece and caregiver, Elaine F. Martin and many nieces and nephews along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings: Isabel Augustine, Mary Jesus Freitas, Mary Carmen Rogers, Angelina Mullen, Dorothy Corless, Mary Stella Sylvia, Emily Silva, Evelyn Travers, Frank Santos, Manuel Santos and Joseph Santos.
A special thank you to the staff at New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home and the Fairhaven Community Nurse’s and Hospice Care for the excellent care.
Visiting hours were held on September 2, and her funeral was held on September 3, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth. Burial followed at in St. John Cemetery.
