John George ice cream coming soon

Jun 11, 2020

John George Farms Ice Cream Parlor may be opening soon for the summer after a June 6 Facebook post announced job interviews are taking place this week.

The much-loved ice cream stand has been closed since 2015 when the proprietor, former Select Board member John George, Jr., went to prison for embezzlement.

According to the Facebook post, the ice cream stand could be ready to open as early as June 25, granted it has all of its permits in place.

Job interviews were held on June 11.

For the first couple of weeks, the stand will stick to serving ice cream to get new workers “comfortable with the system,” the post read. Regular food service will follow.

Former Select Board member John George was granted a common victualler license at a virtual Select Board meeting on May 4.

A popular town fixture who sold ice cream and produce from his Slocum Road stand for decades, George was released early from prison last fall after serving a sentence of more than 70 months for embezzling thousands from the taxpayer-subsidized Southeastern Regional Bus Company.
