John W. Orcutt, Jr., 94, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 12, 2018. He was the husband of the late Virginia M. (Turner) Orcutt.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Colonel John W. and Irene (Croacher) Orcutt, he lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Dartmouth in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division during World War II, where he fought in the second assault wave on Omaha Beach on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge. He received two Purple Hearts and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action.

He worked in his family’s business, Croacher Lumber Yard, from 1948 to 1968, after which he was employed as a stock broker for Tucker Anthony until his retirement in 2007.

He is survived by his son, John, and his wife, Maria, his daughter, Lizzie, and her husband Ken, his six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and his brother Noel.

A private family service will be held. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are made by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
