Jul 21, 2017

Jorge (George) Manuel Custodio, 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 19, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital.

He was born on April 4, 1960 in Porto de Mos, Portugal to John and Noemia Custodio, later moving to Fairhaven, Massachusetts where he graduated high school and went on to graduate from Providence College.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jo-Ann DeSouza ,on July 20, 1985. George and Jo-Ann resided in Dartmouth for 28 years. He worked in banking, most recently as the Chief Financial Officer at First Citizens' Federal Credit Union for the past nine years. Custodio’s largest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.

He was a man that is indescribable, a truly selfless person with the unique ability to influence people in a deep, positive way. He will always be remembered for his famously corny jokes, his inability to sit still, and his infectious personality that could light up any room. He was very active in the community where some of his fondest memories included coaching youth soccer, basketball and baseball.

His hobbies included golfing in his Bush-Whacking league, bowling with his Pin-Heads, kayaking, and carpentry.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Jo-Ann; son Jonathan and his wife Yevgeniya; his granddaughter Mariya of Barnstable; daughter Jenna of Dartmouth; parents John and Noemia of Fairhaven; brother David and his wife Kristin and their daughter Stella of East Lyme, CT; late sister Ana Maria; many other nieces, nephews and cousins; and friends he considered family.
