Learn about bird migration at Allens Pond

Apr 26, 2017

Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary will highlight bird migration with guided walks this May.

The walks, scheduled for May 4, 11, 18, and 25 will take place in varying parts of the sanctuary, which is designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) and home to some of the state’s rarest birds during the migration period. Walks — which run 8-11 a.m. — typically cover three miles.

Those attending should dress for an outdoor hike, and should use insect repellant and sunscreen. Binoculars, a scope, hat, and sunglasses are useful to bring, as are snacks and drinks for field breaks.

The cost is $10 per person for Mass Audubon members and $12 for non-members. Preregistration is required; visit massaudubon.org/allenspond or call (508) 636-2437.

The program is supported through a grant from the Dartmouth Cultural Council, a local agency with support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
