Libania Matos, 74
Libania (Frias) Matos, 74, of Dartmouth passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 27, in St. Luke's Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Joao Matos. They would have celebrated 52 years of marriage in November.
Born in Ribeira Quente Sao Miguel, a daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Linhares) Frias, she grew up there and came to America in 1965. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish.
Mrs. Matos worked as a seamstress for various factories but her true life's work was being a homemaker for her husband and children. Libania was a devoted wife and mother and she always loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Matos Araujo and her husband John, Polly-Ann Matos Ross and her husband Stephen all of Dartmouth and Nancy Matos Camara and her husband Steven of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexandra, Christian, Lucas and Simon; three sisters, Maria Rosonina of New Bedford, Conceicao Linhares of Toronto, Canada, and Ivelia Frias of Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose, Joao, and Zacarias Frias.
Her funeral will be Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 7:30 am from the Waring-Sullivan at Dartmouth 230 Russells Mills Rd., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 p.m.
