Library network creates new magazine eReading Room
Dartmouth library patrons will now be able to browse magazines online in a new digital reading room created by the SAILS Library Network.
According to a statement from the SAILS network, users can enter with their library card number to browse digital books in a section apart from the rest of the catalog, with searches filtered especially for magazines. Top-ranked titles available include OK!, Clean Eating and HGTV Magazine.
The library network’s digital collection offers thousands of ebooks, audiobooks and magazines in a variety of genres with online service provider OverDrive and its reading app, Libby.
“SAILS has seen so much growth in the use of ebooks and audiobooks from people in our communities,” said Kathy Lussier, Executive Director of SAILS Library Network. “We're thrilled we can now offer access to magazines through the OverDrive service that they already know and love.”
The eReading Room concept came from physical reading room spaces in libraries that are designed specifically for different ages, subjects or themes.
Readers can find the eReading Room on sails.overdrive.com/library/magazines and on Libby, available for free from the app store.
The new service is compatible with all major computers and devices without wait lists or holds.
All titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period and there are no late fees. Readers can also download titles onto Libby for offline use.
The SAILS Library Network is a multi-type resource-sharing library consortium serving public, academic and school libraries from 39 towns and cities in Southeastern Massachusetts.
