Local artists to demonstrate techniques at Art Drive

This year’s Art Drive is set to take off on the weekend of August 10-11 with multiple demonstrations by artists from Dartmouth and Westport showing off their artwork and techniques in their own studios.

Take a look at the action-packed schedule:

Saturday, August 10

11 a.m. - Dartmouth painter and sculptor Gay Gillies will give a brief demo of her Fresco technique and talk about her paintings and bronze sculptures at her studio on 254 Potomska Road. Attendees are asked to park on the left side of the driveway and enter through the garden.

1 p.m. - Potter Amy Thurber will show her process of hand building pottery with stoneware clay using leaf impressions at her Doves Foot Pottery studio on 219 Horseneck Road. She will also be holding discussions on choosing plant material, glazing techniques, and how natural forms inspire her artwork.

3 p.m. - Glass artist Barbara Purdy will demonstrate how to use glass grit to create texture and imagery on clear glass at her 21 Memorial Ave studio in South Dartmouth.

Sunday, August 11

11 a.m. - Westport artist Michael Walden will give a printmaking demonstration on how he uses the process of trace monotype as a way of exploring composition in prints. His studio is located at 42 Drift Road in Westport.

1 p.m. - Abbie Chambers of Westport’s Moon Tide Dyers will be demonstrating a few of the hand dyeing techniques used in creating Moon Tide garments at their 384 Briggs Road, Westport location.

3 p.m. - Dartmouth potter Wendy Goldsmith will demonstrate a variety of techniques used to hand build functional pieces and create images on clay at her studio on 224 Gaffney Road.
