Man arrested on drug charges after narcotics investigation

Police arrested a Westport man Friday, July 23 at the Dartmouth Motor Inn, 571 State Road, in conjunction with a narcotics investigation, according to Dartmouth police.
 
John Oliveira, 61, of Sodom Road, Westport, was arrested and charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, one count of possession with intent to distribute Class B (subsequent offense), resisting arrest, failure to stop for police, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
 
The arrest was made with the assistance of a Westport Police detective. 
 
As a result of the arrest, approximately 5.5 grams of suspected cocaine, 4.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and several pills, believed to be Oxycodone, were seized. In addition, $1,059 in cash was also seized.
 
Prior to his arrest, Oliveira allegedly attempted to elude the police in his vehicle.
 
After crashing the vehicle, Oliveira fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended by Dartmouth Police Detective Matthew Correia.

During a subsequent search of the area where Oliveira was subdued, Dartmouth Police K-9 Officer Jared White and his partner, Tyr, located the suspected narcotics.
