Maria Eduarda Benevides, 92, of Dartmouth, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

She was the loving wife of the late Joao Benevides and the daughter of the late Eugenio and Amelia (Arruda) Oliveira.

Born in Lagoa, Santa Cruz, Azores, Mrs. Benevides came to the United States in 1971 and worked as a stitcher for M&S Dress until her retirement.

Her family includes two children, Eugenio Benevides and his wife Lilliana of New Bedford, and Francisca Ferreira and her husband Joao of Dartmouth; six grandchildren, John Ferreira, Ana Sebastiao, Kevin Ferreira, Michael Ferreira, Joao Benevides, and Melanie Francisco; one brother, Eugenio Oliveira of Toronto, Canada, as well as 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Guilhermina Oliveira, Francisco Oliveira, Manuel Oliveira, and Adriano Oliveira.

Her funeral was held on February 4. Burial followed in St. John Cemetery. Arrangements were placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
