Mary A. (Medeiros) Messier, 94, of Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at her home. She was the wife of the late Arthur O. Messier.

Mary was born in New Bedford, the daughter of Joao M. and Maria Rosa (Furtado) Medeiros and the sister of the late Manuel (Pete) Medeiros and the late James M. Medeiros.

Mary and Arthur resided in the San Francisco Bay Area for thirty-four years. During that time Mary worked as a sample maker in the women’s garment industry, being employed by Fleishman’s of California and later by Koret of California. These were jobs she enjoyed and a career she loved, particularly her work with the models. Mary’s lifelong sense of style in her home and in her dress was present until the end.

Mary and Arthur returned to the New Bedford area in 1992, residing in No. Dartmouth, enjoying reacquainting with family and friends. Mary also participated in one of the Fairhaven seniors groups, an activity she enjoyed, serving as well as president.

One of Mary’s greatest joys in recent years was the companionship of caregivers, family and friends in her home and garden. This photo was taken at the gathering on her 94th Birthday.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Saber of New Bedford, her granddaughter Victoria Saber of Boston, a cousin, niece and several nephews.

A mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church will be offered for Mary at a later date. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery with her husband.
