Middle schoolers raise over $4,000 for the international aid

Dartmouth Middle School’s cafeteria briefly became an ice cream parlor on Thursday to celebrate a large donation students made toward international aid.

“We’re very pleased,” said Principal Darren Doane. “The students did some amazing work.”

According to Associate Principal Sarah Decas, kids from all three grade levels came together to raise around $4,100 for the International Red Cross through contributions made my students and their families.

The money, she said, would likely go toward humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and Afghanistan.

Decas said the middle schoolers chose the Red Cross since it was an organization each class had learned about over the past few weeks.

Sixth-grade students learned about refugees, seventh graders were taught about underdeveloped countries, and eighth-grade students learned how to be good global citizens.

All three grades also learned what the Red Cross does to help out people around the world.

“The kids really understand what this is all about. The rationale is to be a good global citizen and help people out,” Decas said. “They’ve really learned a lot.”
