Natalie Rodil Miranda, 89
Natalie Rodil Miranda, 89, of South Dartmouth, passed away on July 18, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital following an extended battle with congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
She was the wife of Roman Miranda, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She was the daughter of the late Antone Norbert and Fanny (Rapoza Silva) Rodil.
Born in Dartmouth, she was a lifelong resident and a parishioner of St. Mary Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Miranda was a graduate of Dartmouth High's class of 1946. She was a dedicated member of the Dartmouth High School Alumni Association and an honorary scholarship is given in her name.
She retired as office manager for the Town of Dartmouth Water and Sewer Division following 35 years of employment. In her younger years, she was employed at C.F. Wing Co. in New Bedford.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, dining out, traveling, reading, and playing cards with friends. She had wonderful memories of winters in Florida with her husband and visiting her son and his spouse out of state.
Miranda was affiliated with many organizations including the former Portuguese-American Civic League of Dartmouth, Daughters of Isabella, Hyacinth Circle, Coastline Advisory Council for Dartmouth Council On Aging, Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly, Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust member, Retirees of Massachusetts, A.A.R.P., and Town Meeting member.
Her family includes her husband, Roman Miranda of South Dartmouth; her son, Stephen R. Miranda and his spouse, Michael Smith of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; her brother, Norbert Rodil and his wife, Jeannette of Dartmouth; her cousin, Carmen Allain; her godchildren, Phil Dutra, Joe Sousa, Jackie Linhares Clark and Michelle Rodil Kimmens; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was especially fond of her nephew, Marc Rodil and his wife, Susan of Hancock, New Hampshire and her niece, Michelle Rodil Kimmens and husband Doug of Boylston, Mass.
Visiting hours will be held at the Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen Street, New Bedford on Sunday, 2-5 p.m. Her funeral will be Monday at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in St. Mary Church, Dartmouth at 10 a.m. Interment in St. John Cemetery.
