New Bedford man allegedly texting while driving before crash
A New Bedford man was allegedly texting while driving before crashing his car on Russells Mills Road on May 16.
Dartmouth Police, Fire District No. 1, and STAT EMS crews responded to 344 Russells Mills Road at 12:08 p.m. after a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Isaac Darosa, of New Bedford, was involved in a crash. Darosa struck a fire hydrant, a no parking sign, a mailbox, and a telephone pole, according to District No. 1 Chief Brad Ellis.
Darosa sustained a head injury from striking the car windshield. He had not been wearing his seatbelt, according to police Det. Kyle Costa. No jaws of life were needed to remove Darosa from the car. He was taken by STAT ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital. His condition is unclear.
Police determined Darosa had been texting while driving. Police also found 47 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.
Darosa was issued a citation, and was summoned to court for possession of marijuana and for possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
