No back-to-school blues at the Quinn School

Kids are filling backpacks with books and pencils, parents getting ready for the early-morning goodbye at the bus stop. The Quinn Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization is taking it a step further to make sure kids are ready for school by Wednesday, Sept. 2, by welcoming them on Monday to test out the playground.
“We believe that if they become somewhat familiar by sight, by the appearance of what the outside looks like, what the inside looks like, that will make Wednesday’s transition a little easier for those students who might be a little bit apprehensive to start school,” said Stephanie Yermalovich, an assistant principal at the school, “But usually they come in smiling and ready to go.”
All the grades were able to come and play, listen to music and enjoy some ice cream. The kindergartners got to enjoy the playground before getting a tour of their school.
All the kids wore name tags, so they could become friends quickly. The kindergarteners started nervous, before enjoying playing with their peers. The first and second-graders ran around, hugging their friends and making new ones.
Ellie, who is going into the first grade, is excited to be back at school. She said her favorite part is “Getting to see some friends.”
Others, like Halle who is also in the first grade, are a bit nervous to return. She was a bit worried that she may not have any of her friends in her class. She said her favorite part of school is reading and writing.
“Just like every year, our teachers are ready, the classrooms look amazing,” said Yermalovich, "It’s going to be a wonderful school year.”
