Noemia Tavares, 77
Noemia "Emmy" Mary (Medeiros) Tavares, age 77, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2017 at the Royal of Fairhaven surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Robert Tavares with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in South Dartmouth, a daughter of the late Manuel and Germina (Almeida) Medeiros, she was a lifelong resident of Dartmouth and a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
She attended Dartmouth schools, and worked at States Nightwear, Fernandes Supermarkets and the Dartmouth Schools as a cafeteria aid. Her most important and only full time job for fifty-five years was as mother to her three children. Time with her loving family was the way she most enjoyed spending her time. She was known for her gentle and caring nature.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Robert Tavares, Jr. and his wife Michelle and their children, Abby, Emilyn, Tim and Lily of South Dartmouth; her daughter, Jeanne Gregoire and her husband Dave of South Dartmouth and their children, Courtney, Samantha Medeiros and her husband Joe, Tyler and Trevor; her daughter, Sharon DeMello and her husband Jeremy and their daughter Allison and stepson Zachary of Acushnet; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Manuel Medeiros, Jr., Arthur, Richard, Louis, and Theophile "Teddy" Medeiros, Dorothy Arruda and Lillian Santos.
Her funeral will be held on September 7 at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 782 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
