Nomination papers taken out for multiple races
With hours left to hand in nomination papers for certification, the upcoming Annual Town Election could include several contested races.
According to the Town Clerk’s Office, three people have taken out nomination papers for a single seat on the Select Board. Incumbent Stanley Mickelson and Lorri-Ann Miller took out papers in January which have been certified. A third candidate, Wayne Whalley, took out nomination papers in February.
With two seats up for grabs on the School Committee, incumbents Christopher Garth and Carol Karafotis took out nomination papers to keep their seats. Kathleen Amaral also took out papers for a seat on the School Committee.
The Board of Assessors race could also be contested. Incumbent Robert Michaud and challenger Debra Lemos have taken out papers for that race.
Other town races are not contested. George Alix took out papers to keep his seat on the Housing Authority, Serri L. Tetrault took out papers to keep her seat on the Parks and Recreation Board, Joel Avila is seeking to keep his seat on the Planning Board, Thomas W. Hardman took out papers to keep his seat on the Board of Health, and Library Trustees Wendy Garf-Lipp and Suzanne E. McDonald have taken out papers to keep their seats.
Nomination papers were due at the Town Clerk’s Office by February 14.
Signatures are due to the Town Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28. Fifty signatures are required to run for a town board or committee.
