Osprey field exploration for adults

Jun 19, 2017

Mass Audubon's Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary is inviting adult community members (18+) to join staff on June 24 for an immersive field school experience at the 1280 Horseneck Road property.

This all-day session (9 a.m.- 8 p.m.) focuses on migratory osprey and factors that influence their success. Participants will get up-close and personal with some of the sanctuary's platforms, and be able to check for nest activity and chicks.

The morning will be puntucated by live nest investigation. The afternoon will include lunch at the Stone Barn Farm and a presentation on the natural history of the species, followed by break-out sessions — which include building nest platforms and lectures — and dinner. The program ends with time for reflection and questions, followed by a film.

Terrain can be uneven in areas, and participants must be prepared to hike approximately two miles over the course of the day. The program will run rain or shine.

The cost is $220 Mass Audubon members and $265 for non-members. Registration is limited to 12 participants. Please register online at www.massaudubon.org/allenspond, or call (508) 636-2437.
