Padanaram Sidewalk Sale fills village streets with bargain hunters

Jul 31, 2021

Shoppers soaked up the sunshine and the sales at the busy Padanaram Village Sidewalk Sale Saturday.

The day-long event, sponsored by the Padanaram Business Association, gave village businesses the chance to display their wares and entice bargain hunters with reduced prices.

Shoppers browsed stores featuring a variety of items, including jewelry, clothing, bags and artwork, among other offerings. Strawberry Moon even offered walk-in tarot readings.

Alyssa DaCunha was on her way to the beach at Round Hill when she stopped at Flora Style to look for a gift for her grandmother.

“Of course I ended up finding things for myself,’’ she said with a laugh as she browsed the outdoor tables.

She made the stop for a serious reason, she said. “I wanted to support local businesses,’’ she said.

Alison Bruun offered her handmade sterling silver jewelry at a pop-up table at Shara Porter Designs.

“There’s been nice foot traffic,’’ she said. “It’s an absolutely gorgeous day. It’s been perfect.’’

Jennifer Lima helps each year with the sidewalk sales for owner Margaret Silva of Details and Designs. “I’ve been doing it forever,’’ she said.

“I like that it’s outside,’’ she said. “I like that she slashes prices.’’

By mid-day, there was still room to drop prices, she said. “She’ll come back out and slash some more,’’ she said.

“It’s a great chance to see people,’’ said Susie Kiley, Silva’s sister. “People love getting such good deals.’’

Shara Porter of Shara Porter Designs said the sidewalk sales was a “nice smaller event’’ than the annual Padanaram festival, which was cancelled this year.

“Everyone’s excited to be outside right now,’’ she said. “People always love a discount.’’

Participating businesses included Folia, Details and Design, Strawberry Moon, Knotty Knits, Shara Porter Designs, Padanaram Outfitters, Stephanies Art Works, Dahlia Living, Flora Home and Flora Style.
