Parking ban, school cancellations issued ahead of winter storm
A parking ban has been issued ahead of a winter storm on Thursday.
The parking ban will run from 6 a.m. on February 9 to 12 p.m. on February 10. During the ban, no parking is allowed on the hydrant side of town streets. On streets with no fire hydrants, parking is only allowed on the side of the street with even house numbers.
The Department of Public Works also canceled solid waste and recycling pick-up for February 9. Thursday’s scheduled pick-up will be moved to February 10.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning ahead of the storm. The latest update, issued at 4:30 a.m. February 8, upped snow totals from 6-12 inches to 12-18 inches of heavy snow and winds from 15-25 mph with wind gusts up to 50 mph.
Snowfall will begin early Thursday morning and last throughout the day, ending in the evening, according to the warning. It warns of hazardous travel due to poor visibility and snow covered roads.
The warning expires at 8 p.m. February 9.
Cancellations:
All Dartmouth public schools, Friends Academy, and Bishop Stang High School will be closed on February 9.
Town Hall will be closed on February 9. Dartmouth Public Libraries will also be closed.
The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will be closed effective at 6 a.m. on February 9. A parking ban along Ring Road will take effect at midnight on February 9. Some university services such as the fitness center will remain open, visit umassd.edu for details.
