Planning Board okays Gaspar’s Sausage Company expansion

Gaspar’s Sausage Company processes four million pounds of meat products every year, so company owners are ready for a facility upgrade.

The family-owned business, located on Faunce Corner Road, was granted a special permit by the Planning Board on July 24, allowing the company to add 3,636 square feet to its footprint.

According to the permit application, the new expansion will be built along the east side of the existing 37,149 square-foot facility. It will extend into what is now a parking lot, necessitating a shift in parking spaces, utilities, and an existing grease interceptor.

“We need more room to process orders. It’s hard to work in the space we have now,” explained Chuck Gaspar. He said the business has been increasing over the years, and the company has long debated an expansion.

Robert Lowder, from engineering firm The Dennis Group, said he anticipates construction to begin next month and wrap up in November.

Founded in 1923, Gaspar’s moved into its present location in 1980. It has become the United States' largest sausage company.
