Plymouth 400 informational meeting to be held on October 13
Plymouth 400 will host an informational meeting about Dartmouth’s participation in the program on Thursday, October 13, at 2 p.m. in Town Hall, room 304.
The program will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower and the establishment of Plymouth Colony. It is a celebration that reaches across Massachusetts and across the globe.
The program has a number of components, including plans to integrate into school curriculums, special events to celebrate a number of milestones, an opening ceremony, efforts to honor Native American heritage, recognition of local history and more.
The informational meeting will be mainly a brainstorming session to determine which events Dartmouth would like to host for the program, according to organizer Cynthia Marland. She said nothing is set in stone yet, as this will be the first public informational meeting to discuss the scope of Dartmouth’s participation in the program.
She added that there is great potential for Dartmouth from a business and cultural perspective. She said it’s estimated that about 1 million people will be drawn to Plymouth for the celebration, and that Dartmouth could capitalize on that by hosting events for the program as well.
