Police 'drop mic' after social media helps them identify three shoplifters
Dartmouth Police had the names of three shoplifters within a day of asking Facebook followers for help identifying them.
The women allegedly stole approximately $300 in Target merchandise on May 7, said Detective Kyle Costa. On May 8, the department announced a chance for the women to turn themselves in, saying it already had their names.
"I guess that you all must've made a few people VERY angry throughout the course of your lives, because my phone literally did not stop ringing last night and this morning with tips about who all three of you are," posted Costa.
The original post had 417 shares. The post announcing a chance for the women to turn themselves in was shared 1,723 times.
On May 8, Costa announced via Facebook that "all three of our female contestants have turned themselves in based on our attention grabbing post."
The women will receive a summons to appear in court instead of being arrested because they also returned what they stole, according to the post.
