Sep 21, 2016

The Dartmouth School Committee welcomed new teachers with a reception this month. With 29 fresh faces in Dartmouth’s schools, Dartmouth Week sat down with a group of four teachers to see how their transition is going.

What's your favorite place to hang out in town?

I have lived in Dartmouth for four years and my favorite place in town is my house! I live in the most beautiful area of South Dartmouth. I'm so lucky! Going for bike rides past Alderbrook Farm, the Slocum River, and Padanaram harbor is the best.

What subject did you enjoy most in school?

I loved music. I played the clarinet in middle school and high school, but gave it up in college because the music department was huge and very competitive. I have regretted it ever since.

Robert Perrotti Unified Arts, Dartmouth High

What put you on track to become a teacher?

I started my education career as a camp counselor as a teen. I also worked as a teen director at the YMCA as well. That’s how I got into it.

What advice would you give to students on the first day of school?

Make sure you stay focused. Learn how to set goals and prioritize. Most kids are all over the place.

Bridget Taylor Step Up, Dartmouth High

What was your favorite subject while you were a student, other than the subject you teach?

My favorite subject was foreign language, specifically Spanish. I was so lucky because we had a great Spanish department at my college, so I minored in Spanish.

What’s your favorite place to visit in town?

I am not too familiar with Dartmouth, but I am enjoying my after school Chippi from Mirasol's!

Marcia Vieira Math, Dartmouth High

If you could have a pet in the classroom, what would you pick and why?

I would not like a pet in my classroom, but I would like plants. I love having students try experimental designs in my class. For example, comparing an experimental group versus a control group.  What will happen if you give this plant plant food and don't give anything to another?

What advice do you give to new students?

Get involved and get proactive! Advocate for your own education.
