Resident receives Red Cross aid following house fire

Feb 9, 2017

An early morning house fire on State Road has left one resident unharmed, but in need of help.

Dartmouth Fire District No. 3 responded to 958 State Road on February 9 for a reported kitchen fire. Crew found heavy smoke, and a fire on both the first and second floor of the structure when they arrived around 2:13 a.m, according to officials.

Deputy Chief Ted Borges said there was a single resident living in the home at the time, but there were no injuries. That resident is now receiving assistance from the Red Cross, he added.

Borges said firefighters were able to contain the fire to the house's rear with the use of five fire engines, one ladder, and one heavy rescue vehicle. Both Dartmouth Fire District No. 2 and Westport Fire were on scene to assist. Crew reported the fire to be under control by 3:06 a.m.

Borges said that although the cause of the fire was electrical, it still remains under investigation.

Damage to the $301,800 home is estimated to be $75,000, said Borges.
