Residents of all ages enjoy trucks full of treats at the Stackhouse Club

The Stackhouse Club grounds were full of costumes, candy, and cars on Saturday as the annual trunk or treat returned for its fourth year.

Dartmouth resident Megan Bussiere organizes the free event every year to raise funds for her daughter’s dance team. While not as big as last year’s Covid-safe event, she said turnout was very steady.

“It’s been beautiful,” Bussiere said. “We really lucked out.”

Throughout the afternoon, costumed kids went trunk to trunk in search of their favorite treats.

Four-year-old Lucas Cores, who was dressed as a “Lucas Bot,” said he was very happy to get some Skittles, one of his favorite candies, and that he “liked being a robot.”

“He likes the jetpack,” said his brother Noah, 7.

The festive fun was not just limited to kids.

Parents were able to win prizes through the annual raffle. The raffle offered 25 items including local crafts, gift cards for local businesses, a DNA testing kit, and wine.

Many adults also went all out decorating their trunks with typical spooky symbols like spiders and cobwebs to popular games such as “Super Mario Bros.” and “Among Us.”

New Bedford resident Lynette Soler decorated her Juan Ortiz’s semi truck with Sesame Street cutouts, banners, and plushes of Elmo and Cookie Monster.

Soler said this year’s theme was inspired by her toddler son, who is a big fan of Sesame Street.

“I figured he’d go with it,” she said with a laugh. “Plus, I get to pretend to be Cookie Monster.”

Along with being a spot to hand out candy, trunks were also voted on to see which participant had the best one.

The inaugural honor went to New Bedford resident Candis Braga and her family for their Mario themed trunk.

“This is like the only award I think I’ve ever won,” she said with a laugh.

Braga said she was inspired by a trunk she saw online and immediately got to drawing and coloring the power up mushroom and Goombas that appear in all the games.

“It took weeks to cut everything out,” she noted.

Already, the champ is looking forward to the next trunk or treat.

“We have a whole year to think of the next trunk,” Braga said. “I know I will have fun with it.”
