Ride set Sept. 12 to support bikeway

Aug 8, 2021

The South Coast Bikeway Alliance will hold its fourth annual Pedal for the Path fundraising ride on Sunday. Sept. 12.

The ride will start at the New Bedford YMCA and travel through New Bedford, Dartmouth and Westport with an option to continue east to Fairhaven and Mattapoisett.

Participants can choose among three ride options, for 13, 25 or 47-60 miles of cycling.

Every route includes a stop at Acushnet Creamery at Pier 3 in New Bedford.

Alliance representatives will be located along the route in each community to welcome riders and share the news of the bikeway in their city or town. A post ride celebration with live music at the Y will complete the day.

Free event t-shirts are available to registrants before Aug. 29. To register, visit www.bikereg.com/pedal-for-the-path.

Organizers of the ride report that the organization, with a 2020 grant from MassTrails, was able to complete Phase 2 of the Closing the Gap Feasibility Study to determine the best way to connect Fall River and New Bedford with pathways through Westport and Dartmouth.

Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) has been implementing the Feasibility Study. District staff will be on hand during the ride to share their findings and seek feedback. For more information, visit srpedd.org/transportation/bicycle-and-pedestrian-networks/scba-feasibility-study.

Funds raised from this ride will help provide matching funds for further studies for design and build.
