School Committee welcomes a dozen new teachers to the district

Sep 26, 2023

Dartmouth Public Schools welcomed a new batch of educators at the School Committee meeting Sept. 25. While the teachers and professionals already began the new year weeks ago, they were introduced for the first time to the committee on Monday.

Some of the teachers introduced were Dartmouth students themselves, returning to sit on the other side of the classroom. A chunk of other new teachers are current residents of Dartmouth who will now be working in the same town they live in.

Two new educators are at Cushman Elementary School: a pre-kindergarten teacher and a special education teacher.

A new English as second language teacher will head to Potter Elementary, and another teacher will assist with adaptive physical education at both Cushman and Quinn Elementary schools.

Two new teachers will be joining the middle school in physical education and ELA and social studies.

Four new teachers are headed to the high school, respectively teaching English, computer science, mathematics and special education.

Two other district-level positions were filled, including one rotating physical therapist and one speech pathologist for Cushman Elementary.

The new teachers are all required to participate in “Project T.I.M.E.”, an official mentoring program. Each teacher is matched up with a mentor in a similar subject area. Teachers that are new to the profession as well as Dartmouth are required to complete an additional 50 hours of the program.
