Dartmouth High School’s advanced placement studio arts students will host a spring exhibition of their works at the Dartmouth Cultural Center from April 5 to April 7.

The exhibition, titled “Art and Soul,” will begin with the opening reception on April 5, 5-7 p.m. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 6 and 7.

Each AP art student will be showcasing works from their portfolio. Portfolios contain 24 polished pieces of artwork which will be graded. Those works are broken into three categories: breadth, featuring a wide array of mediums; sustained investigation/concentration for more focused art on a particular topic and medium; and quality, or the student’s most high-quality works.

Eleven students will have works on display. They include: Rebecca Benoit, who focuses on the influence of social media and technology on our lives; Marisa Borges, who explored the connection between people and flowers through portraits; Oona Clarke, who focused on the identity of people who inspire her; Celina Costa, who explored her favorite places through landscape paintings; Tara Couto, whose art portrays anxiety; Kolbe Durant, who portrays other’s essence; Victoria Houde, who tackled grief;  Katherine Jones, who focuses on an important space for teenagers: their bedrooms; Patrick Mello, whose art deals with the urban environment’s taking over of the natural world; Michelle Sherman focused on human rights; and Kaitlin Ouellette on how human beings are destroying the environment.

The reception and gallery are free to attend. Refreshments will be served during the opening reception.

The Dartmouth Cultural Center is located at 404 Elm Street in Dartmouth.
