Sharing the Harvest open house is May 16
Volunteers of all skill levels are encouraged to drop by the YMCA on May 16 to learn about Sharing the Harvest, Dartmouth YMCA’s own volunteer-driven community farm.
The non-profit farm, which has been in operation since 2006, helps fight community hunger through a collaboration with the Hunger Commission of Southeastern Massachusetts, a program of the United Way of Greater New Bedford.
What began as a modest garden patch now stretches across four acres of land behind the gym facility at the Dartmouth YMCA.
The open house runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 276 Gulf Road. There will be information sessions held every half hour as well as kid’s activities and fun volunteer projects. Volunteer opportunities at the Sharing the Harvest farm are available from March to November.
Volunteers can expect to be involved with every aspect of the farm — from seeding to harvesting. No prior gardening experience or knowledge is necessary.
