Sharing the Harvest Community Farm hosted its second annual Simple Soup Social on April 9 at the Dartmouth YMCA.

This family-friendly event featured a variety of soups and grilled cheese donated by Blount Fine Foods and Fay’s Restaurant.

"I am humbled by the gracious and friendly support of the community," said Volunteer Coordinator Ricky Lee Phillips via email.

After expenses, the YMCA netted $710, all of which will benefit the Sharing the Harvest Community Farm’s 2017 growing season, said Executive Director Mike Mahoney.

"I was pleased with the turnout and the atmosphere. It was an opportunity not only to support a great community cause, but also allowed folks to gather and spend quality time with neighbors and community partners," he said.

Sharing the Harvest is a volunteer-driven, community farm established in 2006 as a grassroots effort to fight hunger along the south coast of Massachusetts. Together, the farm, the YMCA, and its volunteers donate produce and cage-free eggs to 18 local hunger relief programs in New Bedford, Fall River, and Wareham.
