South Coast cyclists gear up for 10th anniversary Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride

Sep 14, 2016

From Westport to Wareham, bicyclists of all ages and abilities are preparing to pedal for clean water at the 10th anniversary Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride, a road cycling tour of southeastern Massachusetts on Sunday, Oct. 2.

The Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride is a community event that supports clean water in Buzzards Bay. More than 150 cyclists participate each year, riding their bikes across the Buzzards Bay region to raise funds to protect clean water. Cyclists can sign up for the Watershed Ride at savebuzzardsbay.org/ride.

There are four distances to choose from: a 100-mile century ride that begins at Sakonnet Point in Rhode Island; a 75-mile route that begins at Horseneck Beach in Westport; a 35-mile route that begins at Eastover Farm in Rochester; and an 11-mile family route down the Shining Sea Bikeway in Falmouth. All routes end at a waterfront finish line party in the heart of Woods Hole village on Cape Cod complete with food, drinks, live music, and free massages for riders.

There is also a lunch stop, water and snack stations along the course, and on-the-road repair technicians available at call, all riders can feel safe and fully supported.

Each rider raises a minimum of $300, but many participants set loftier fundraising goals. All funds go directly to support the Buzzards Bay Coalition, a nonprofit organization that works to protect clean water and natural areas across southeastern Massachusetts through education, conservation, science and advocacy.
