Southworth film series begins January 24

Jan 4, 2017

The Southworth Library’s film series will kick off on January 24 at 11 a.m. Called “How to Look at and Understand Great Art,” the six-part lecture series runs through February 28.

Unlike a traditional survey of art history, these richly illustrated lectures, guided by Professor Sharon Latchaw Hirsch, President of Rosemont College, takes attendees on an in-depth exploration of the practical skill of viewing art through the lenses of line, light, perspective, and composition. Using masterpieces of Western paintings and sculpture as well as hands on studio demonstrations, Professor Hirsch helps deepen knowledge and appreciation of great works of art.

Two 30-minute lectures will be shown each Tuesday, to complete part one of the series. Part two will follow next January. Ever since it was started in 1989, this film series has been one of the Friends of Dartmouth Libraries most popular programs.

The lecture series is free and open to the public. The series will still go on in the event of inclement weather unless the library is closed.

The Southworth Library is located at 270 Dartmouth Street.
