Spring arrives with baby goats at Round the Bend farm
Snowdrops and wild crocuses are already showing after one of the mildest winters in Dartmouth history — but they aren’t the only sign of spring.
Baby goats and piglets are among the newest arrivals this year at Round the Bend farm on Horseneck Road.
The youngest are a pair of as-yet unnamed kid sisters, born to mama goat Peaches on March 9.
“She’s a first-time mom,” noted their caretaker, Tyler See, talking fondly about Peaches. “She did a really good job.”
See is the resident builder at the farm, which also functions as an educational non-profit that aims to empower and educate those in the community.
When he first arrived at Round the Bend nine years ago, he said, he didn’t know that he would be taking care of goats. But he’s evidently fond of his charges.
Although not even a week old, the two babies are already climbing, jumping, and nibbling on everything within reach.
Meanwhile several older kids, born nearly two months ago, are still learning to keep their footing on a large boulder outside.
Round the Bend holds monthly Open Farm Days for the public to tour the farm, visit the animals, and buy local products.
The first Open Farm Day is scheduled for April 18.
