St. Peter's to dedicate community-wide peace garden, peace pole
St. Peter's Episcopal Church and The Bridge: A Center for Hope and Healing are inviting the community to the dedication of the new community-wide Peace Garden and Peace Pole on Sunday, September 11, 2016.
The event will begin with a service of Holy Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (351 Elm Street;ย all denominations are welcome) and the outdoor dedication ceremony will follow. As part of the dedication, a special prayer will be offered marking the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The Peace Garden, facing Elm Street on St. Peter's property, is open to anyone in the community who would like to stop by to meditate and reflect. The Peace Garden was constructed through the generosity of Sylvan Nursery in Westport and Lawrence Greenhouse in New Bedford and was designed and constructed by Debra Silvia, a member of St. Peter's.
At the center of the Peace Garden will be a peace pole with messages of peace in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Wampanoag. The garden and pole will be a continual visible reminder for the community of the need for peace in our world. Participants will be able to purchase a "Peace Necklace" as well. All are welcome.
