Student art contest explores rising oceans

Jan 16, 2021

Art students aged 11-18 in Dartmouth are invited to enter the 10th annual Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest by submitting artwork exploring our connection to water and the need to protect this vital resource.

Submissions are accepted in visual and performing arts, writing, film, interactive and multimedia.

General prize awards for winners range from $50-$1,500. Eligible participants from the South Coast, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, or Nantucket are also in the running for a $250 cash prize through the contest’s South Coast, Cape and Island Award.

The 2021 Ocean Awareness Contest theme is “Ocean Rising,” challenging students to explore and understand their relationship with water, and to creatively communicate the need to protect this life-sustaining resource. There are five prompts and five categories.

What are the stories we need to tell about water to sustain and conserve it for current and future generations of life on Earth?

The contest deadline is June 14, 2021.
