Sunrise Bakery locations selling to separate owners
After the sun set on Sunrise Bakery’s Dartmouth location this spring, the building’s future has been unclear. Owners Manny Amaral, Inez Pacheco and Joe Amaral put both the Dartmouth and New Bedford locations up for sale in January.
Now, a “sold” sign stands in front of the bygone institution on Dartmouth Street. Castelo Group real estate agent Martin Correia confirmed the building was under agreement, and said the sale would finalize on Jan. 3, but he could not share any details on the new owners.
The Bolton Street location in New Bedford, however, is selling to a man named Richard, who declined to share his last name with Dartmouth Week. Richard said he intended to purchase both locations, but was unable to get the funding required for the Dartmouth Street building.
“Losing Dartmouth was a heartache,” Richard said.
Richard wanted to keep both locations “the same as it’s been for 44 years,” and wishes he could have come up with the funding for both properties.
The bakery first opened in a strip mall on Russells Mills Road in 1980 and moved to its current spot at 571 Dartmouth Street in the 1990s.
