Talk planned on bird migrations
The Paskamansett Bird Club will host a virtual presentation on spring migrations titled “Travelers in the Sky: Appreciating Spring Migration” on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
The presentation will be conducted by Wayne Petersen, the director of the Important Bird Areas for Mass Audubon.
Attendees will learn some basic information about how and when birds accomplish their migrations, where they are coming from, what their destinations are in spring, and something about the conservation challenges that increasingly face many migratory bird populations.
Petersen is a past vice president of the American Birding Association and the Massachusetts Avian Records Committee, editor of New England Christmas Bird Counts (CBC), and a former New England Regional editor for North American Birds magazine.
His writing projects include writing the “Field Guide to Birds of Massachusetts,” co-authoring “Birds of Massachusetts and Birds of New England,” co-editing the “Massachusetts Breeding Bird Atlas 1 and 2,” and contributing to “The Sibley Guide to Bird Life and Behavior.”
The presentation will be held via Zoom and can be joined by using meeting ID 836 5231 6063.
