Get rid of the kids.
The Dartmouth YMCA’s monthly Kids Night Out, 6-9 p.m., will focus on cooking. This drop-off program includes a meal and themed activities. Registration is required; visit the YMCA at 276 Gulf Road, or call (508) 993-3361.
Blaze a trail.
Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary’s first Trail Blazer volunteer day begins at 9 a.m. at the field station, located at 1280 Horseneck Road. Trail Blazer Days will run every Friday morning after that for three hours each, with the goal of building a new trail at the sanctuary.
Anyone is welcome to attend. No experience is necessary and all tools and training will be provided. Projects volunteers will tackle trail maintenance, boardwalk construction, and removing invasive plants. For more information, visit massaudubon.org.
Saturday, February 11
Snowshoe through the woods.
Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust's rescheduled snowshoe trek through Slocum's River Reserve begins at 9 a.m. at the Horseneck Road reserve. Those with dogs are welcome, but dogs must be leashed during the walk. The event will go on as a winter hike if there is no snow. Rock out.
The Paskamansett Concert Series continues at the Grange with Dartmouth native Thatcher Harrison. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person; $12 for kids (under 18), seniors (over 60), and college students. Toddlers are free, and family admission is $35. Get hypnotized.
Hypnotist Frank Santos Jr. will perform at the Fisherman’s Club, 639 Orchard Street in New Bedford, at a fundraiser to support the Dartmouth High School After-Prom Committee. Monday, February 13
Reminisce with old classmates.
A memorial event for the former Gidley School will take place from 6-7 p.m. at Quinn Elementary School. The event will feature guest speakers and an opportunity for former classmates and teachers to reunite and share their memories of the school, which is slated for demolition. Donated artifacts will also be on display.
Celebrate aging.
The Coastal Neighbors Network, a nonprofit aimed at helping Dartmouth residents remain in their homes while staying connected with the community, will host a celebration and discussion, 5-6 p.m. in Room 304 at Town Hall. It will feature a live stream of a lecture by Boston surgeon Atul Gawande and a discussion about the network’s mission to help Dartmouth residents remain in their homes and communities as they age.
Tuesday, February 14
Dance away.
The annual Valentine's Day Dance will take place at the Dartmouth Council on Aging, 2-4 p.m. Refreshments and music will be provided, with plenty of opportunity to dance. Advance sign up required. For more information or to sign up, contact the Council on Aging at (508) 999-4717.
