Complain about the internet (for research)
The Massachusetts Broadband Institute is kicking off a statewide ‘Internet for All’ listening tour to gather input from residents about ways to address digital equity and to identify barriers to internet access.

The series will be held in cities and towns across the state where community members can provide feedback to state leaders that will directly inform state proposals tied to federal funding.

The first regional Southeast listening session is being held at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South in Brockton on September 7, 2023, from 5-7 p.m., but a simultaneous Dartmouth option will also be available at the North Branch Library.

The listening session will include a small group discussion and roundtable format. Register online for the in-person event or the webinar.

Fuel up for the school year
Dartmouth Mall will be asking for money and food donations to the United Way of Greater New Bedford Hunger Commission, an organization that provides food and logistical support free of charge to programs that support families and individuals in need. Donors will be allowed to spin the prize wheel.

Family-friendly activities and crafts will also be available.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will take place at the couches in the center of the mall.

Flea market finds
The Smith Neck Friends Meeting Annual Flea Market will be held on September 9 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations are welcome, but the group is not accepting TVs or computers. Vendors may rent an 8 foot table for $20 with chairs. The Friendly Circle will offer baked goods and a luncheon including lobster rolls, stuffed quahogs, and sandwiches. Lobster Rolls may be pre-ordered for $15. To rent a table, order a lobster roll, or for more information please call Carole at (508)-991-0459.

Smith Neck Meeting is located at 594 Smith Neck Road in South Dartmouth. Handicap accessible. Rain date is September 16.

Marking monarchs
Help Mass Audubon at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary with tracking monarch butterflies before they migrate. Kids and parents can take part in this free community science project where they are the investigator; identifying, collecting and tagging migrating Monarchs as they make their way to sunny Mexico for the winter.

Hike out to the fields, look for Monarch Butterflies, then tag and release with a Mass Audubon Field Teacher.

Take a morning paddle
Do you have access to a kayak? Then start your morning the right way with Executive Director Nick Wildman and Development & Outreach Specialist Kendra Parker for a paddle down the Slocum’s River.

All guests are responsible for bringing their own kayak and life vest. Additionally, attendees are required to wear a life vest and sign a waiver.
If you don’t have a kayak, Osprey Sea and Surf Adventures will give a 10 percent discount on a rental. The trip leaves from Gaffney Town Landing at 9 a.m.
