Things to do: Eat chili, go for a walk, learn about Quakers

Feb 26, 2020

There's a lot happening in Dartmouth on any given weekend. Here’s what’s going on this week:

Friday, February 28

Enjoy a chili cook-off.

The Dartmouth Council on Aging will be holding a Chili Cook-off at 12:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. Four teams are competing this year. The cost is $3 and sign-up is required. Those who wish to attend should call the Council on Aging at (508) 999-4717 or visit the Center at 628 Dartmouth Street in South Dartmouth to find out more.

Saturday, February 29

Go on a Leap Day walk.

Use the extra day this year to join Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust’s Development and Outreach Specialist Kendra Murray for a free Leap Day walk through Parsons Reserve. Pre-registration required. Register online at dnrt.org/event/leap-day-walk. For more information, call (508) 991-2289 or email info@dnrt.org.

Sunday, March 1

Scout for Snowy Owls.

From 9 a.m. to noon, Mass Audubon is hosting a search for the elusive snowy owl, which migrates to Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary every year. The group will start at the Sanctuary at 1280 Horseneck Rd. and walk approximately 2.5 miles of uneven terrain. Dress for an outdoor winter hike, and bring binoculars and/or scope.

Registration is required and limited to 12 adults. The walk costs $18 for Mass Audubon members, and $20 for non-members.

Get spiritual at St. Peter’s.

A new Sunday morning spirituality series will kick off from 9 - 9:50 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Padanaram. The six-session series is run by facilitator Ruth Haley Barton and is geared to help participants to renew their spirit and live a more fulfilled life.

For more information, call the Parish Office at (774) 510-5661 or email stpetersdartmouth@gmail.com.

Learn about Quakers.

Local historian and storyteller Bob Harding will present a free talk on the Quaker infrastructure of early Dartmouth from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse, 1205 Russells Mills Rd.

The talk is open to the public and is hosted by the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society. Refreshments will be served, and a $5 donation is suggested.
