Things to do: eat johnnycakes, shop local art
There’s a lot happening in Dartmouth in any given week, here’s what’s coming up this week.
Thursday, April 21
See a celebrated French chanteuse at UMass Dartmouth
The Boivin Center for French Language and Culture will host singer Mathilde Mauguière for a concert at 4 p.m. in the College of Visual and Performing Arts auditorium. The show is free and open to the public with parking available in Lot 9.
Friday, April 22
Celebrate Earth Day with the DNRT
Help the DNRT clean up the Knowles-Padanaram Reserve and then celebrate by tie dying a custom DNRT Earth Day shirt. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting with a trash cleanup before breaking out the tie dye.
Attendees should register for the event on the DNRT website. The cost of the activity is $15 and includes a shirt. Attendees can also bring up to two more t-shirt-sized items to tie dye.
Get a jump on the newest trends at a UMass fashion show
UMass Dartmouth students from the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) will hold a fashion show at 6:30 p.m. in the CVPA auditorium.
The show, titled “LIGHT + SOUND,” will feature handmade outfits designed and constructed by the students. This year’s theme is “athleisure.”
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for the general public. They can be purchased in cash at the door or on the art school’s website.
Saturday, April 23
Eat johnnycakes at the Dartmouth Grange
The Dartmouth Grange will host a johnnycake breakfast at its 1133 Fisher Road location from 8 to 11 a.m.
Cornmeal used to make the New England breakfast staple is from the Gray’s Grist Mill from Westport. The johnnycakes will also be served with Massachusetts-tapped maple syrup, local jam, butter, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, and hot and cold beverages.
The locally-sourced meal will cost $12 per adult and $8 per child. Tickets will be sold at the door.
Shop for gifts at the Local Artisan Show
Formerly held in the Macomber House in Westport, the Local Artisan Show — titled Spring in the Garden — is coming to Dartmouth on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The sale will be held outdoors at Doves Foot Pottery, 219 Horseneck Road, South Dartmouth.
The sale will feature a wide variety of handcrafted works, including: hand-blown glass, giclee prints and cards, carved wooden objects, special order dinners, and more.
