The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society will be holding a community yard sale at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse at 1205 Russells Mills Rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The yard sale will feature books, household items, and more.
Quack up a storm in the pond.
The 6,000 rubber duckies competing in the Allens Pond Duck Derby will ride the incoming tide from Buzzards Bay into Allens Pond. If you’d like to view the race, you must buy a ticket and register online at www.massaudubon.org or by calling 508-636-2473. Those watching the race will meet at the Allens Pond Field Station at 1280 Horseneck Rd in Westport and walk the one and a half miles to the race site.
Explore artists’ studios.
Tour studios during the second weekend of the South Coast Artists Open Studio tour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. 15 Dartmouth artists, along with others from the South Coast and Rhode Island will be open to visitors. Wine and Dine.
Dartmouth High School Alumni Association will host a wine tasting fundraiser at the Dartmouth YMCA on August 19, 4-7 p.m. Coastal Vineyards will pour fine crafted wines for tasting while the DHS Alumni Band and Friends will provide musical entertainment. Light refreshments will be served. Tickets are $20 per person. To purchase tickets, contact Sue (Vaz) Bullock at (508) 728-1987. Proceeds benefit the Dartmouth High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
Bike and eat ice cream.
The Buzzards Bay Coalition and the Appalachian Mountain Club are hosting a 30 mile ride through Dartmouth and Westport at a 12 to 15 mph pace. There will be some hills, but there will also be a stop for ice cream. Bring water, a snack, a spare tube, and sunscreen to this free event. A helmet is mandatory. Meet at the Lees Market parking lot at 10 a.m. Register by calling (508) 493-8221 or by emailing milmod@aol.com.

The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society presents “Documenting Dartmouth: The Images of Theodosia Potter Chase.” Judy Lund will give a lecture at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse, 1205 Russells Mills Road, beginning at 6:30 p.m., on the life and work of Theodosia Potter Chase, who was a librarian at the Old Southworth Library, a commercial photographer, and a painter. Chase was a prolific photographer and documented life on the South Coast until she was 90. A donation of $5 is suggested.G
Get quacking at a festival.
Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary is hosting the 15th annual Duck Derby Festival at 1280 Horseneck Rd in Westport from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, and the festival features educational exhibits, kids’ games and crafts, live music, a silent auction, a live plant auction, $5 barbecue, and, of course, the announcement of the winners of the Duck Derby!
