Friday, October 26

Explore the Cultural Center.

The Dartmouth Cultural Center is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at Old Southworth, 404 Elm St., from 12 to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Party in costume.

The Council on Aging, 628 Dartmouth St., is hosting a Halloween costume party at noon, featuring lunch, jukebox bingo, a photo booth, and a costume contest. Tickets cost $5.

Get to know creepy critters.

The Lloyd Center is hosting a kid friendly night hike from 6 to 7 p.m. Wear costumes and learn about creepy favorites like owls, spiders, bats and snakes. Pre-registration is required for this event online at www.lloydcenter.org. Prices vary. Call Amanda Nowicki with questions at 508-990-0505, ext. 19.

Shop the last farmer’s market.

From 1 to 6 p.m., check out the last Farmer’s Market of the season at the St. Mary’s Parish Lawn, 789 Dartmouth St. The market features locally grown and crafted food and gifts and live music.

Do the time warp again.

UMass Dartmouth’s 20 Cent Fiction Productions will perform a shadowcast of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at 8 p.m. on Friday, and midnight Saturday, along with a special alumni performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday night in the campus auditorium. Tickets cost $5 for students, $7 for alumni, faculty, and staff, and $10 for adults.

Saturday, October 27

Trick or treat with firefighters.

Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 will host its second annual Trunk or Treat Halloween bash from 6 to 8 p.m. at the 10 Bridge Street station. Activities will include trick-or-treating, touch-a-truck, and refreshments. Those attending are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween costumes.

Gaze at the stars.

Observe the night sky from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. during the UMass Dartmouth Observatory’s open house. If the event must be cancelled, an announcement will be available before each event around 5 PM by calling (508) 999-8715. The observatory is located in the field to the right of the main campus entrance at 285 Old Westport Rd.

Sunday, October 28

Learn about community resources.

The Dartmouth Special Education Parent Advisory Council will host its free sixth annual Southeastern Massachusetts Community Resource and Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dartmouth High School. It includes vendors, programs, activities, demonstrations, a blood drive, and a unified basketball game.

Hear about local farming.

The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society will host storyteller Carlton “Cukie” Macomber for a talk on South Coast farming at 4 p.m. at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse, 1205 Russells Mills Road. Light refreshments will be served, and a $5 donation is suggested.

Wednesday, October 31

March in a Halloween parade at the fire station...

Fire District No. 3 will kick off its Halloween parade at 6 p.m. at the 140 Cross Rd. station. Costumed kids and families are invited to march along Cross Rd. A magic show will be held following the parade.

... or in the village. 

The Padanaram Business Association will host its 2nd annual Halloween parade at 4:30 p.m. The parade starts at the New Bedford Yahct Club and ends at St. Peter's Church.  Trick-or-treating will be offered at village businesses with pumpkin logos in their windows.
