Sing along with Cool Banana Wig.

Friends Academy will host a free concert for kids from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. as part of their 12-week spring concert series. Perfect for children ages 2-6, kids will be able to dance and sing along with interactive kids’ band Cool Banana Wig. There will be fun and interactive play with unusual instruments and plenty of silliness.

Get your hands wet at the library.

The Lloyd Center will bring live sea creatures to the Southworth Library from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for a free, hands-on storytime experience for kids. Learn about Estuaries, get your hands wet and make a splash at this interactive event. After reading “In One Tidepool: Crabs, Snails, and Salty Tails”, participants will meet animals like giant sea snails, spider crabs, hermit crabs and more.

Celebrate a grand opening with gelato.

Village Harbor Sweets in Padanaram will be holding its grand opening celebration from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at its location on 242 Elm Street. There will be free champagne, wine, and chocolate and gelato samples, so bring a sweet tooth.

Hunt for Salamander eggs.

Not your average Easter egg hunt, this short hike with Mass Audubon will explore the woods for frog and salamander eggs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. leaving from the Stone Barn Farm on 786 East Horseneck Road, South Dartmouth. The experience is suitable for children ages 5 and up and includes a visit to a vernal pool and a targeted search of the forest floor for native amphibians.

The hunt will cost $10 for Mass Audubon members and $12 for non-members. Warm layers and rain boots are recommended, as the hike includes wet areas and rain is expected. It will be rescheduled in the case of downpours and/or freezing temperatures. Registration is required. Please call (508) 636-2437 or register online at massaudubon.org.

Saturday, April 20

Meet baby goats and learn to make soap at Round the Bend Farm.

Round the Bend Farm will kick off its free seasonal Open Farm Day program with a spring celebration from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be baby goats, live music, dancing, activities and games suitable for all ages. Afterwards a soap-making workshop will be held at 1 p.m. for participants to learn how to make bar soap from beef tallow, lye, water, and essential oil (please wear a long-sleeved shirt and a hat for safety), with samples to try out.

Open Farm Days will be held at Round the Bend Farm’s new Learning Center at 92 Allen Neck Road, South Dartmouth. Please, no dogs or pets. For more information or directions please call (508) 938-5127.

Help Green Up Dartmouth.

Over the Easter Weekend (Saturday and Sunday), join other Dartmouth residents to pick up all the litter left by melting snow. Green Up Day Trash bags (specific bags must be used) are available at the Dartmouth Department of Public Works office on 759 Russells Mills Road. The bags will be picked up on Monday, April 22 at the following six locations:

Explore nature with your preschooler.

Puddle Jumpers nature club gives preschoolers a safe space to explore the natural world through guided hikes, nature play, and getting outdoors. A Buttonwood Park Zoo educator will meet the group at different Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust locations each week and lead a 50-minute nature exploration activity.

This week the group will explore Parsons Reserve at 50 Horseneck Road from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult (backpack babies welcome). The cost for all five Puddle Jumpers hikes is $70 for DNRT/Buttonwood Park Zoo members or $110 for non-members. Please call (508) 991-6178 ext. 67413 to receive your DNRT member discount.

Clean up Dartmouth for Earth Day with DNRT.

Celebrate Earth Day with the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust and give back to nature by helping clean up our natural reserves from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at the Ridge Hill Reserve on Collins Corner Road, Dartmouth, then continue via carpool to the Shingle Island River and Faunce reserves.
